CASE STUDY - ECHO
CHALLENGE
Cirque du Soleil embarked on an ambitious project to reinvent the stage for their brand-new show, "ECHO." The goal was to incorporate projections onto a moving cube, which presented a significant technical challenge.
SOLUTION
Meeting this challenge required pushing the boundaries of what had already been achieved under a circus tent. Our team implemented technical innovations to create immersive optical effects while preserving the distinctive aesthetics of Cirque du Soleil and respecting the director Mukhtar's vision.
Integrating a large rotating cube equipped to receive projections within a traditional stage space posed a formidable challenge. This was the audacious undertaking by Cirque du Soleil for their show "ECHO," where an enormous white cube became the centerpiece of the performance, rotating and adorned with projections.
SOLUTION
Under the direction of Jérôme Delapierre, projection designer for the show, our studio collaborated with Normal Studio to create the visuals projected on this cube. A year-long project, during which we developed unique visuals for each act, each with their own color palette and narrative, while supporting the artists' acrobatic performances without stealing the spotlight.
Close collaboration with the Cirque du Soleil design team was essential to ensure that our work respected their artistic vision and could be used sustainably throughout the next fifteen years of touring.
At the same time, our studio also worked on the visuals of the VIP concession in 360 degrees, as well as on Instagram filters in augmented reality. These playful filters, inspired by the creatures featured in the initial “Symbiosis” tableau, as well as the visuals designed for the screens under the big top and in the VIP area, were perfectly in harmony with the show, creating a seamless and immersive experience for the public.
